Gia Mantegna, daughter of 'Simpsons' 'Fat Tony', is Miss Golden Globe 2011
Gia Mantegna, a 20-year-old actress and daughter of actor Joe Mantegna, has been named Miss Golden Globe 2011 for the 68th Golden Globe Awards, set to air live on Jan. 16, 2011 on NBC.
The person chosen for the position assists during the ceremony, which will be hosted by comedian and actor Ricky Gervais and held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association organizes the event and votes on the winners of the awards, which honor the best in film and television. It usually selects children of well-known celebrities to hold the title of Miss Golden Globe.
Previous honorees named Mr. or Miss Golden Globe include Rumer Willis, the daughter of actors Bruce Willis and ex-wife Demi Moore, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Melanie Griffith, who is the daughter of actress Tippi Hedren.
Gia Mantegna has acted on screen for the past seven years and has starred in movies such as "13 Going on 30" with Jennifer Gardner" and played Patty in the ABC Family drama series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager".
Her father has appeared in "The Godfather: Part 3" and other films. He also plays David Rossi on the series "Criminal Minds" and voices mafia boss Fat Tony on the animated show "The Simpsons".
"I am honored to be part of this wonderful ongoing tradition created by the HFPA," Gia Mantegna said in a statement carried by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. "I have grown up watching the Golden Globes with my family and feel so fortunate to be part of such a magical evening, so early on in my career."
The nominations for the 2011 Golden Globes will be announced on December 14 at 8 a.m. ET.
