Pop star George Michael was recently injured in a Range Rover crash on a highway in England, while his rep says he is "fine" and remains hospitalized.

The 49-year-old singer and former member of the group Wham! was airlifted to a medical center following the accident, which took place on Thursday, BBC News reported on Friday, May 17.

"George Michael was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic accident yesterday evening," read a statement posted on the singer's official website. "No third party was involved. He is being treated for superficial cuts and bruises but is fine. We have no further comment at this time."

An ambulance spokesperson told BBC News that a man in his 40s sustained a head injury and did not identify him by name. The identity and condition of the Range Rover's driver was not made public. Police confirmed two people were in the vehicle and said the crash is being investigated.

Michael was banned from driving for five years after he crashed his Range Rover into a store in London in 2010. He was also sentenced to jail for eight weeks after he pleaded guilty to marijuana possession and driving under the influence of drugs.

Michael was also banned from operating a vehicle for two years in 2007 -- a sentence issued for driving under the influence of drugs and crashing into three parked cars without notifying their owners.
