George Lopez's talk show 'Lopez Tonight' is canceled by TBS
George Lopez's late-night cable talk show, "Lopez Tonight," has been canceled after less than two years on the air, following lackluster ratings.
"TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of 'Lopez Tonight,'" a network spokesperson said in a statement to OnTheRedCarpet.com. "Thursday will be the final episode of the show."
"Lopez Tonight" debuted in November 2009 and aired on weekdays at 11 p.m. Its cross-network premiere on TBS, TNTand TruTv was watched by 3.2 million viewers, including 1.7 million TBS viewers.
A year later, Conan O'Brien's talk show "Conan," took over its time slot after the host left NBC's "Tonight Show" amid a network shake-up. Lopez's program was then moved to midnight. Its ratings have since declined.
The second season premiere of Lopez's show in November 2010 was watched by a total of 1.35 million people. During the last week of July, "Lopez Tonight" drew an average of 0.4 million total viewers.
"We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer," the TBS spokesperson added. "TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air."
Lopez rose to fame as a comedian and later starred in his own scripted comedy series, "George Lopez," which aired originally between 2002 and 2007 and continues to be broadcast in syndication.
Lopez also appears in films and has voiced characters in animated movies such as "Beverly Hills Chihuahua," "Rio" and "The Smurfs." He recently filmed the comedy film "The Skank Robbers" with Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence.
Earlier this year, Lopez and Ann Serrano divorced after 17 years of marriage. They are parents to a teenage daughter, Mayan. In 2005, the couple made headlines after Serrano donated a kidney to Lopez, who suffers from a genetic ailment.
