Genevieve Sabourin's lawyer talks Alec Baldwin case: 'there was no stalking here'
An attorney for Genevieve Sabourin denies that the Canadian woman had stalked or harassed Alec Baldwin, following her arrest last month.Sabourin, a 40-year-old actress, was detained in April after the 54-year-old "30 Rock" star filed a complaint against her. Authorities say she had tried to obtain contact with him repeatedly over the past few weeks and professed her love for him via emails sent days after he announced his engagement to his engagement to Hilaria Thomas, a 28-year-old yoga instructor.
"There was no effort at harassment, and there was no stalking here. My client had a legitimate purpose for her efforts to contact Mr. Baldwin," her attorney told the Associated Press on Monday, May 14, adding the two had a relationship, without elaborating.
Sabourin and Baldwin met on the set of the 2002 movie "The Adventures of Pluto Nash." She worked as a publicist, while he had a cameo in the film. Baldwin told authorities the two had dinner together in 2010. Police she turned up at Baldwin's New York home in March and at a screening he was hosting in New York City in early April. Sabourin was arrested on misdemeanor stalking and harassment charges.
"I'm confident that my lawyers are going to solve this," she said.
The New York Post posted a photo of her smiling outside the court and quoted her as saying: "Je t'aime New York! I love the United States. I believe I'm a New Yorker, sometimes! My heart is in harmony with the place, and the people."
Baldwin spent Monday with his fiance on the French Riviera, according to a photo she posted on her Twitter page. The Cannes Film Festival begins on May 16.
Baldwin is best known for his role as Jack Donaghy in the NBC sitcom "30 Rock." The network recently announced that the upcoming seventh season will be the last one for the show. The season 6 finale airs on May 17.
Baldwin had one season left on his contract anyway and had last year already expressed a desire to do something different, such as run for a political position. When asked how he feels about "30 Rock" coming to an end, the actor Tweeted: "The time is nigh."
