Gary Oldman on why Amanda Seyfried was the 'perfect' choice for 'Red Riding Hood' - Watch
Actor Gary Oldman thinks that his co-star, Amanda Seyfried, was the "perfect" choice to play the titular "Red Riding Hood," in the latest adaptation of the classic fairy tale, which hit theaters this weekend.
"Amanda is the perfect 'Red Riding Hood,'" the actor told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the film's premiere in Los Angeles. "The camera loves her and she's got those big eyes and that pale face."
"She's great casting for it. That's the one thing that Catherine [Hardwicke] is very good at," Oldman says of the films director, who was also in charge of helming the first "Twilight Saga" film and is partly responsible for casting Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
"She cast Shiloh [Fernandez] and Max [Irons] and those boys always go on to become stars," he says, referring to the success of the "Twilight" stars Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. "So she's got a great eye for casting."
"Red Riding Hood" is based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Oldman plays Father Solomon, a witch hunter who helps the townspeople of a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, who can take on a human form.
Seyfried plays Valerie, a young girl who lives in the village. In the film, Seyfried's character falls in love with an orphaned woodcutter, played by Fernandez, and wants to run away with him to avoid an arranged marriage. However, their plan is stalled when her older sister turns up dead and Valerie discovers she has a unique connection to the werewolf.
"Red Riding Hood" is co-produced by actor Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who helmed the first "Twilight" film. The movie also stars Virginia Madsen and "Twilight Saga" actor Billy Burke.
"It's one of the most universally known fairytales, I mean it's a fairy tale for a reason," Seyfried said. "I don't know when I was told or who told me, but it was just something that really exists as a legend, a cautionary tale in my mind. It scared the crap out of me."
"Red Riding Hood" was released on March 11, 2011. Watch the trailer below.
