The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation group has announced its nominations for the 2014 GLAAD Media Awards.

TV nominees include the Netflix women's prison series "Orange Is The New Black" and BBC America's "Orphan Black" and "Shameless" (all on OTRC.com's list of 13 Best TV Shows). Singers Lady Gaga and Elton John also received nods, as did themovie "Dallas Buyers Club" and the HBO film "Behind The Candelabra."

"Since its inception 25 years ago, the GLAAD Media Awards have reshaped the news and entertainment industries, inspiring thoughtful and inclusive characters and plotlines that have driven equality forward," GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement to OTRC.com.

"This year has brought momentous progress for LGBT people and families - and our nominees have created images and stories that continue to challenge misconceptions, shatter stereotypes, and change hearts and minds of millions all across the globe."

Two GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held -- one takes place in Los Angeles on April 12, 2014 and the other in New York on May 3.
