Fiona Apple arrested for hashish possession in Texas - See mug shot
Fiona Apple was arrested for hashish possession on Wednesday, September 19, in Sierra Blanca, Texas after a Border Patrol drug-sniffing dog detected marijuana in her tour bus,OTRC.com has confirmed.
A statement from the Hudspeth County sheriff's office said the 35-year-old singer spent Wednesday night in the county jail and was released on a $10,000 bond on Thursday, September 20.
According to the statement, Apple was booked under her given name, Fiona Apple Maggart, and had 0.010 pounds of hashish and 0.010 pounds of marijuana at the time of her arrest. Hashish is, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a more concentrated form of marijuana. Marijuana possession in small amounts is a misdemeanor in Texas while hashish in any quantity is a felony.
Apple has not commented on the incident. She is known for her hit "Criminal" and a cover of "Across the Universe." She released her fourth studio album on June 19 called "The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do."
The Sierra Blanca checkpoint where Apple was stopped was also the same check point Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and actor Armie Hammer have been arrested on marijuana charges. The check point inspects thousands of vehicles daily and sends the town thousands of drug cases yearly, according to the wire service.
