Estella Warren pleads no contest to DUI arrest
Estella Warren has pleaded no contest to DUI charges stemming from an incident in May 2011.
The 32-year-old actress, who starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in the 2001 remake of "Planet of the Apes," will not serve jail time for driving under the influence, carrying out a hit-and-run, attacking a police officer and escaping from police. Instead, she was sentenced to five years of informal probation and four months in a residential rehab facility, according to E! Online.
The misdemeanor charges for hit-and-run, battery on a police officer and resisting arrest were dismissed. The actress is due to appear in court on October 7 to determine whether she owes restitution.
Warren recently did a stink in rehab and wore an alcohol-detecting SCRAM bracelet, her lawyer, Darren Kavinoky, told People magazine.
"She's committed to making the situation right and moving on in a way that's appropriate... This scenario can be the catalyst for significant change," Kavinoky told the publication on Friday. "Estella's attitude towards this whole thing is awesome. She's more than accepting. She's embracing the personal opportunities that have come from this."
On June 9, Warren was charged with driving under the influence, carrying out a hit-and-run and battery on a police officer. She was arrested in late May after allegedly crashing into three cars, kicking an officer and then escaping from police custody.
Warren also faced a charge of "resisting or delaying a peace officer in the performance of his duties" and is accused of refusing to "submit to a chemical test." Los Angeles City Attorney's spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
Warren faced a maximum of six months in jail on the four misdemeanor charges. She was convicted of a prior DUI offense in 2007.
The actress has also appeared in movies such as "Kangaroo Jack," "Driven" and "The Cooler" and is also known for her past work as a model and synchronized swimmer.
Days before her arrest, Warren listed her Beverly Hills home for sale for some $1.4 million. The 2,247-square foot property contains three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms as well as a pool and a remodeled kitchen with a breakfast bar and concrete countertops. The home was also put on the market in June 2009 and was priced then at almost $2 million. The housing market has suffered in recent years amid an economic crisis, and home owners, especially those in Los Angeles County, have seen drastic decreases in the appraised value of their property.
