Emmys host Neil Patrick Harris rolls out red carpet, talks dancing
Neil Patrick Harris did some manual labor on Wednesday, Sept. 18 -- he helped roll out the heavy red carpet near the Nokia Theatre' L.A. Live venue in Los Angeles ahead of the 2013 Emmy Awards, which he is hosting on Sunday.
This is the second such hosting gig for the 40-year-old actor, a star of the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" and Broadway performer. He hosted the 2009 Emmys host. How will NPH help bring the magic this time? The way he naturally brings the magic -- through music. In this case, dance.
The host is set to take part in what he says is "probably the biggest dance number" ever seen at an Emmys ceremony. It is part of the presentation of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography, which was usually handed out in a preliminary ceremony until this year.
The dance was choreographed by the nominees, which include Derek Hough of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" and Sonya Tayeh and Allison Holker of FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance."
Harris, a former Broadway performer who has showcased his singing and dancing skills on stage before, including while hosting the 2013 Tonys, told OTRC.com that in reality, he's never had formal dance training.
"I've never taken a dance class in my life," he said. "For real. I have good rhythm, I have a decent time. I can understand systems and like sequences -- left, left, right, left, right, right, left right. But when they start throwing terminology all around, when you watch these people and they do like a double spin with their legs straight up in the air and they say, 'Yeah do that,' that's when it gets embarrassing."
