Emma Stone, a rising star who plays Peter Parker's blonde love interest Gwen Stacy in the new "Spider-Man" movie, showcases her bikini body on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine's August 2011 issue and says a missed acting opportunity once spurred her to have a "meltdown."

"I usually wear a one-piece," the 22-year-old actress, who dons a red and white striped vintage bikini, was quoted as saying.

Stone told the magazine that she rock-climbs at Chelsea Piers in New York and undergoes weight training and Pilates sessions with Garfield and is conscious of the pressure in Hollywood to stay thin but has not succumbed to popular fad diets, such as one touted by celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson, whose methods have been praised by the likes of actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Stone rose to fame with the teen comedy films "Superbad" in 2007 and "Easy A" in 2010 before she was cast in the new "Spider-Man" movie, which also stars Andrew Garfield from "The Social Network" and is set for release on July 3, 2012.

Stone had dropped out of high school and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. She also worked part-time at a dog bakery, Vanity Fair said. She had small parts on shows such as "Medium" and the Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" before she scored her breakout role in "Superbad."

As is the case with most actors, Stone has faced rejection. Stone told the magazine that she was once was turned down for a potential role on the NBC action series "Heroes," which aired between 2006 and 2010 and was once one of the network's biggest hits. She considers the missed opportunity her hardest Hollywood moment and described her audition.

"I could hear that, in the other room, a girl had just gone in and they were saying, 'You are our pick ... On a scale of 1 to 10 you're an 11," Stone told Vanity Fair, adding that Hayden Panettiere, who ended up playing main character Claire Bennet, then walked out of the room. "I went home and just had this meltdown."
