Emma Stone on 'Spider-Man' character: this is a very different Gwen
Emma Stone went from indie darling to blockbuster babe when she signed on to do "The Amazing Spider-Man," but the new stars aren't the only changes for the franchise.
"It's in 3-D, which is new - that's literally, visually more! But there's also, we go from the very beginning when he was orphaned and all through his first love who we didn't, I mean we met her in 'Spider-Man 3,' but this is a very different version of Gwen, so going through all of that and Dr. Connors and the Lizard... there's a lot in this one."
In "The Amazing Spider-Man," Emma Stone portrays Peter Parker's blonde love interest Gwen Stacy, opposite "The Social Network" actor. The pair, who has been romantically linked since June 2011, met during a screen test for the upcoming superhero movie.
"It was a really great audition," Stone told reporters at the premiere. "It was really great to work with him."
In the "Spider-Man" reboot, Peter Parker (Garfield) goes in search of clues that might explain what happened to his parents, who disappeared when he was young. His search brings him to Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner.
Gwen Stacy, Parker's first love, was portrayed in the comic books, but Stone told reporters that they had to make some changes."Modernizing was a big thing because she was around 50 years ago," Stone told reporters.
Stone rose to fame after appearing in "Superbad" and quickly racked up roles in "Crazy, Stupid, Love," "Friends with Benefits" and "The Help." Stone was nominated for a Golden Globe for her break-out role in "Easy A."
Garfield has appeared in films like "The Other Boleyn Girl," "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and "Never Let Me Go." The 28-year-old English actor was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role "The Social Network."
"The Amazing Spider-Man" is slated for release on July 3, 2012. Watch a trailer below.
