In the newest addition to the "Scream" franchise, Emma Roberts stars as Jill, the younger cousin of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), the survivor of three serial killers in the popular slasher films. Prescott returns to her hometown of Woodsboro for a book tour on the fifteenth anniversary of the original murders. Just as she sets foot in her old town, another Ghostface murderer begins another killing spree. Roberts, whose character is part of the new group of high school students threatened by the murderer, revealed to OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish that she almost didn't audition for the role. "When I think about this audition it was so random because I wasn't going to go," she said during a press junket for the film. "I was leaving my house to go and I thought, 'I'm not going. I don't want to go.'" She adds, "I remember calling my mom and she was like 'Emma just go. It's not a big deal. If you get it you're doing an awesome movie and if you don't, you can spend the summer with me.' I was like OK. " The actress also reveals that when she went to audition with director Wes Craven, she didn't meet the director in person. "I went and he was on Skype," she said. "So I went in there just with him on Skype, his assistant and a casting director and I'm standing there so nervous, like sweating, reading these lines and I remember him being like, 'OK thank you.'" Though Roberts was sure Craven's lukewarm response meant she was out, she says, "I got home and I found out I got the part." "Scream 4" also stars newcomers Kristen Bell, "Heroes" actress Hayden Panettiere, "Mad Men" and "Community" star Alison Brie, Adam Brody of "The O.C." and Rory Culkin as well as original cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and her estranged husband, David Arquette. Roberts, who is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and the niece of Julia Roberts, says that despite the age difference, the cast got along well. "They were so awesome, you know, they would always invite us over, have dinner with us," Roberts said of Campbell, Cox and Arquette. "They were really cool. David [Arquette] and Courtney [Cox] would always cook and have us over. Neve would always invite her to her house to just chill and relax on the weekends. It was really fun and we all got along really well." The actress admits that while most of her friends were excited for the film, her mother was a bit apprehensive. "My mom was so excited and in the same breath as saying 'I can't wait' she's going 'I don't know if I'll be able to see it. That's really scary,'" Roberts said. "I actually took her to see it when I saw it and she turns to me and goes 'Emma, you know I love you so much but I think I need to step out for a moment .'" She adds, "I was like, 'Ok mom.' She's like, 'It's just a little scary.' And I was just laughing because even my own mom was terrified." Check out the trailer for "Scream 4" below.
