Elton John to perform at 2013 Emmys, pay tribute to Liberace
Elton John is set to perform at the 2013 Emmys and pay tribute to Liberace, the late famous pianist who is the subject of the Emmy-nominated HBO film "Behind The Candelabra."
Both performers are known for their striking, often over-the-top stage outfits. This will mark John's first performance at a Primetime Emmy Award ceremony and comes ahead of the release of his new album "The Diving Board," his first major studio record in seven years, organizers said. The album is set for release two days after the Emmy Awards, which will take place on Sept. 22.
"Behind The Candelabra" is nominated for 15 Emmys, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for both Michael Douglas, who plays Liberace, and Matt Damon, who portrays his lover Scott Thorson. Both actors are set to present Emmys at the ceremony.
