Elmore Leonard dies: 'Get Shorty' author was 87
Author Elmore Leonard has died at age 87.
He passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at his home, surrounded by his family. He had suffered a stroke several weeks ago and had been hospitalized in the Detroit area.
"The post I dreaded to write, and you dreaded to read. Elmore passed away at 7:15 this morning from complications from his stroke," read a message posted on his official Facebook page. "He was at home surrounded by his loving family."
Leonard wrote 45 novels, several of which have been turned into movies, including "Get Shorty" and "Out of Sight."
