Ellie Goulding, a British singer to perform at Royal Wedding - listen
British musician Ellie Goulding is scheduled to perform at the Royal Wedding reception to Prince William and Kate Middleton's 300 guests, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The 24-year-old singer/songwriter took the British charts last year with her cover of Elton John's "Your Song" and her debut album "Lights." She is reportedly a favorite of the Royal couple, who wanted to bring some British talent to the event.
Middleton's sister, Pippa Middleton is the event planner for Friday's reception and has reportedly offended Palace officials with her plans to put disco balls in the throne room.
"Pippa's choice of turning the throne room into a nightclub set-up also went down like a lead balloon with Palace aides, who tried to have it stopped," a source told U.K. newspaper, The Daily Mail. "But William stepped in and insisted that he wanted the evening event to be very different from the formal champagne and canapé reception being thrown by the Queen immediately after the wedding. He wants to it be very young and cool, so the old guard caved in and gave their approval."
The event will reportedly have food trucks parked in the Palace quadrangle, serving "bacon butties" (a bacon sandwich with cooked bacon between buttered bread, often with either ketchup or brown sauce) and ice cream.
Goulding signed to Polydor Records in 2009 and "Lights" debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and told over 380,000 copies in 2010. She was the second artist (after Adele) to win both the Critics' Choice Award at the BRIT Awards and the breakthrough act at Sound of 2010, BBC's annual poll of music critics.
Aside from singing, Goulding also plays guitar, drums, piano, clarinet and tambourine. Her sound has been compared to that of Kate Nash, Lykke Li, Tracey Thorn and Björk.
She made her American television debut on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in April performing her hit "Starry Eyed." Goulding will also be the musical guest on the 700th episode of "Saturday Night Live," which airs on May 8, 2011 and will be hosted by Tina Fey.
