Ellen DeGeneres bought Brad Pitt's Malibu house for $12 million (Photos)
Ellen DeGeneres bought Brad Pitt's Malibu beach house on Friday, for $1.75 million less than the asking price.
According to People magazine, the sale was finalized on December 16 and the talk show host bought the 4,088-square foot Mid-Century Modern house, which is in the coastal community of Malibu, California, for $12 million.
Pitt had put the home on the market for $13.75 million in August and photos of the property emerged in October.
DeGeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi put their home, which was featured in Architectural Digest, on the market for $49 million in October ( See photos of Ellen and Portia's home).
"We never had a house when I was growing up," DeGeneres told Architectural Digest for their October issue. "We always rented. But my father would dream, and we used to look at houses all the time. I'd pick out which bedroom would be mine and get all excited... The first thing I did when I made money was buy a house. And then --"
"Another one," De Rossi interrupted. "And another one and another one and another one..."
Pitt bought his Malibu property for about $8.4 million in late 2004, months before his first wife Jennifer Aniston filed for divorce in March 2005. The actor hasn't lived in the home for several years. He and his current partner, Angelina Jolie, own houses elsewhere in Los Angeles as well as in New Orleans.
The home overlooks the ocean and boasts four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a tennis court, a lap pool, fireplaces, security and sound systems and a path to a sandy beach cove. The house was built in 1962 on some 1.26 acres and was renovated several years ago by architect Chris Sorenson.
