Elle Fanning of 'Super 8' 'obsessed with everything vintage'
Elle Fanning, who plays Alice in the new J.J. Abrams film "Super 8," says she loves everything vintage and was excited to use an 8 mm film camera for the movie.
The film is set in 1979 and takes place in Ohio where a group of friends witness a train crash while making a Super 8 movie. They suspect the catastrophic crash is not an accident.
"The Super 8 camera seems a lot cooler," Fanning said in an interview provided by film studio Paramount Pictures. "I love vintage, I'm obsessed with everything vintage so it was really cool to see [the 8 mm camera]. I didn't know what a Super 8 camera was before this."
Fanning stars alongside Amanda Michalka and Kyle Chandler in the sci-fi thriller.
"It's so funny because when we're shooting the movie, we have the real camera and they're shooting a camera," Fanning said, laughing.
Fanning's career blossomed at the tender age of 2, when she played the younger version of her sister Dakota's character, Lucy, in the film "I Am Sam." Since then, Fanning has worked with stars such as Kim Basinger, Jeff Bridges, Brad Pitt, and Cate Blanchett.
"Super 8" was released on Friday June 10. It is written and directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg.
