Handwritten love letters from a then 17-year-old Elizabeth Taylor were sold at the New Hampshire-based RR Auction on Thursday for $47,652, according to a press release from the company.

The auction featured over 60 love letters handwritten by Taylor during 1949 to fiancé William Pawley, Jr. Pawley, the son of a wealthy American businessman and ambassador, was recently revealed as her first fiancé.

According to Reuters, RR Auction obtained the letters two years ago from a representative for Pawley, who is still alive. The actress died of congestive heart failure on March 23, 2011. The auction featured 66 letters from Taylor, as well as 20 letters from the actress' mother to Pawley asking the 28-year-old to leave her daughter alone.

Reuters reports that the two met while Taylor was vacationing in Florida with her family in March 1949.

"I want our hearts to belong to each other throughout eternity -- I want us to be 'lovers' always," Taylor wrote in a letter dated March 28, 1949. "Even after we've been married seventy-five years and have at least a dozen great-great-grandchildren."

The relationship later fell apart over her career.

"I received your wire this morning about sending the ring and bracelet to New York," Taylor wrote Pawley on September 20, 1949, referring to her engagement ring. By this point it seems the relationship had soured. "I have the ring on now -- It is sparkling so beautifully in the sunshine -- I suppose this will be the last time I have it on -- for a while at least -- take good care of it, Darling -- for my heart is embeded right there in the center of it."

Taylor became as famous for her love affairs as she was for her movie roles in films like "Cleopatera" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" She was married eight times to seven husbands, twice to Richard Burton. Her first marriage was to Conrad "Nicky" Hilton in May 1950. The two divorced after nine months in January 1951.
