Elizabeth Berkley of 'Saved By The Bell' welcomes baby with Greg Lauren
Elizabeth Berkley of "Saved By The Bell" and "Showgirls" fame welcomed her first child - a son named Sky Cole Lauren on Friday, July 20 in Los Angeles, California.
"The moment we both saw him it was love at first sight," the couple told People magazine. "We are over the moon and grateful to start this amazing adventure together as a family."
The 40-year-old actress and her husband, artist and clothing designer Greg Lauren wed in 2003. The 42-year-old's uncle is fashion mogul Ralph Lauren and he has also had roles in films such as "Boogie Nights," "A Time To Kill" and "Batman Forever" and played Brett Nelson on the soap opera "The Young and The Restless" in 1999.
"In life there are moments you cherish forever and this is one of them," Berkley said on her Twitter page on March 5, when she announced the pregnancy. "Greg and I are so excited to be expecting our 1st child this summer. We couldn't be more grateful and overjoyed. Xoxo."
Berkley played Jessie Spano on the sitcom "Saved By The Bell," which ran between 1989 and 1993. Her character, an overachieving high school student, dated athlete A.C. Slater, played by "Extra" host Mario Lopez, and at one point became addicted to caffeine pills.
The actress went on to star in the 1995 NC-17-rated film "Showgirls," playing a former prostitute and stripper who will stop at nothing to headline her own, glamorous Las Vegas show. The movie bombed at the box office but became a cult hit on cable.
Berkeley appeared in movies such as "The First Wives Club" and played a teacher who is wrongfully accused of sexually assaulting one of her students in the 2003 television film "Student Seduction." She later had recurring roles on shows such as "The L Word" and "CSI: Miami." In 2009, she starred in the "Donnie Darko" spin-off film "S. Darko" and in 2011, appeared in the television movie "Lucky Christmas."
Berkley is also an author. Her book, "Ask Elizabeth: Real Answers to Everything You Secretly Wanted to Ask About Love, Friends, YourBody... and Life in General," was released last year.
Tiffani Thiessen, who played bombshell Kelly Kapowski on "Saved By The Bell and who currently appears on the show "White Collar," recently spoke with OnTheRedCarpet.com at the 11th annual Biggest Baby Shower event in Los Angeles about her own experience with motherhood. Thiessen, 38, and husband Brady Smith had welcomed a daughter, Harper, in June 2010.
"First of all, that word 'Mom,' it's like, when you're young, you don't even think that," she told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "Not that I would ever not think I was going to be a mother. Now to be hearing 'Mama, mama, mama twenty-four seven, it's pretty awesome."
