Elisabeth Hasselbeck appeared on the ABC daytime series "The View" as a regular co-host for the last time on Wednesday, July 10, a day after it was confirmed she would leave the show and move to the Fox News Channel, where she would work in a similar position on the morning series "Fox & Friends."

The 36-year-old, who was regarded as the conservative voice of "The View," was praised by her colleagues Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg, who sometimes got into heated political arguments with her on the air, and main co-host and executive producer Barbara Walters. The fifth panelist, Sherri Shepherd, was absent from the show but posted a series of affectionate tweets about Hasselbeck, who she dubbed her "sister-in-Christ."

Check out 7 highlights from Elisabeth Hasselbeck's last day on ABC's "The View."

1. Barbara Walters is "verklempt"

"I am a little emotional or as that other Barbra sometimes says, 'I'm a little verklempt.' Is that it? OK. Because it was reported last night that our Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving us to join the Fox network," Walters said, using the Yiddish term that means "overcome with emotion."

"As you can see, I'm a little teary but I always want what's best for you. You know how I feel about you and I'm happy that you're going. No, I'm not happy that you're going! I'm happy that it's good for you," Walters said, later adding: "We do feel that you always brought a fresh voice to the show, you stood by your opinions even when things were very heated. That's not an easy thing to do."

2. Elisabeth Hasselbeck dubs Whoopi Goldberg "walking, unconditional love," Goldberg calls her the "cat's meow."

"Whoopi, oh man," Hasselbeck said. "Everyone always asks me, 'What's Whoopi like?' Iit is undeniable that you are one of the most talented artists on this planet. But when they ask me what you're like, they know, yes, you are that, but you are even more loving than you are talent. You are walking, unconditional love and I have counted on that unconditional love numerous times and I will continue to do so. And I am just blessed to have gotten to call myself a friend of yours."

"I just think you're the cat's meow," Goldberg told Hasselbeck. "You've been a really good friend to me and I appreciate you and, you know, may we both continue to grow 'cause that's life. That's what life is."

3. Joy Behar cites her "exciting" heated arguments with Elisabeth Hasselbeck and launches a zinger about Fox News.

"Joy and I have spent the past 10 years sparring over politics, but you know, I have the most, I mean, insane amount of respect for you," Hasselbeck said. "I even like when Joy has the ability to throw a one-liner in and make me laugh even when I don't want to so I love you, I truly do."

Behar is herself leaving "The View" after the current season ends. On Wednesday's show, the comedienne and co-host, who has expressed liberal political opinions, made a somewhat snarky comment about Hasselbeck's new job.

"You know, first of all, Fox, gee. Won't you be a fish out of water there?" Behar said. "But I just have to say that I have appreciated your presence here a lot. I think that when we got into it, it was exciting. It was exciting for the show, I think. Of course, we probably have enemies because of it, but so what?"

"That's OK, 'cause we're friends," Hasselbeck replied.

4. Sherri Shepherd - Elisabeth Hasselbeck's "sister-in-Christ."

Shepherd was working on the set of Chris Rock's new film, "Finally Famous," while "The View" was taping and watched the episode from there. (Check out an Instagram photo of Shepherd in character -- she wears a blonde wig and plays Rock's ex-girlfriend.)

She said on Twitter: "Thank you to the production team of @ChrisRock's movie for allowing me to excuse myself to watch my friend @ehasselbeck say goodbye #tears."

"Sherri Shepherd! Your protest of absence is not working," Hasselbeck said on the show, joking. "I am so going to "Fox & Friends.'"

"I love you, Sherri, we talked last night and I just gotta look out there and tell you even when you're not right beside me here, I know you are always with me. You're my Sister in Christ, my friend for life, and when I see you, just be warned -- I will hug you for probably three and a half days straight."

Shepherd had earlier posted several affectionate tweets about Hasselbeck.

"Love you too my sister-in-Christ...My Bridesmaid...My Friend. Who's hand will I hold under the table? Who will pray w me? @ehasselbeck #love," she said on Wednesday.

The @ehasselbeck you don't see ... Her shoulders were the ones I cried on while going thru a nasty divorce & child custody battle #friend," she added.

Shepherd married Lamar Sally on Aug. 13, 2011 and Hasselbeck was one of her bridesmaids. Shepherd was previously married to comedian Jeff Tarpley, with whom she has a son, Jeffrey.

"'You only have to please an audience of One' @EHasselbeck to me when I first started @theviewtv and got criticized for everything #friend," Shepherd said.

Shepherd also wrote about how Hasselbeck helped her through hard times in her personal life.

"'I will be right over to help you' @ehasselbeck to me when Jeffrey had a high fever & I was sick w stomach flu... #friend," she tweeted. "When I am going thru it - there's always a knock at my door & @ehasselbeck enfolds me in her arms w a word of prayer & encouragement."

"We may not always agree politically, but @ehasselbeck is one of the most genuine people I know & I am honored to call her my friend #love," she said. "'I am praying that God send you a man who loves you and loves my Jeffrey' @ehasselbeck's texts to me while jogging in the park #friend.

5. Elisabeth Hasselbeck calls Barbara Walters her "mentor."

"I think it's fair to say that over the course of a decade, I feel as though I have attended the BW School of Broadcasting and Journalism," Hasselbeck said.

She said that because of what Walters taught her, she felt prepared to interview political candidates.

"I felt more than prepared to interview President Barack Obama for the fourth time," Hasselbeck said. "I feel more than prepared at this point, because of all that you've given me, more than prepared and confident to move forward. And I've worked with the best in the business and I can't ask for a better leader and mentor. You are the best that there is."

6. Barbara Walters mentions Elisabeth Hasselbeck's family.

Hasselbeck joined "The View" in November 2003, more than a year after she married he college sweetheart and NFL player Tim Hasselbeck. They have a daughter and two sons.

"You were still a newlywed when you joined us at the table -- that was 10 years ago, yeah -- and three of your children were born while you were here, although now that you're going to have the early morning hours, I'm not sure that there will be a fourth," Walters said.

"Well, I'm going to bed earlier," Hasselbeck replied.

"The View" airs at 11 a.m. ET, while "Fox & Friends" is broadcast at 6 a.m. ET. Hasselbeck will make her debut on the latter show in September, replacing Fox News' Gretchen Carlson, who will appear on the channel in the afternoons and is also set to host her own show that month.

7. There are no immediate plans to replace Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

"You're going to leave a big void at this table," Walters told Hasselbeck. "We know this. We are not going to be filling it very soon, OK? We have plenty of guest hosts ... we're going to take our time, so don't send us any tapes or resumes, please."

"Tell [Fox News Chairman and CEO] Roger Ailes, he knows he and I are very good friends, that you're gonna come back and visit us whenever you feel like it," she added.

(OTRC.com, parent company KABC Television and the ABC Television Network are owned by the Walt Disney Company.
