Ed Harris plays former presidential candidate John McCain in the new HBO film "Game Change," which tells of the 2008 election and stars Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin.
The project is based on the book of the same name by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann and follows McCain's presidential campaign, from the Republican Arizona senator's choosing of Palin as a running mate on the Republican ticket to the pair's defeat in the general election, which was won by President Barack Obama. The U.S. leader does not appear as a character in the film, according to casting lists.
McCain, 74, told Fox News in March that Harris is "a great actor" but added: "I obviously haven't read the book, so I don't think I'll be watching the film."
Harris, 60, is also known for movies such as "The Truman Show," "A Beautiful Mind" and "The Rock."
"Game Change" also stars Woody Harrelson, Ron Livingston and Melissa Farman, who starred as a young Danielle Rousseauon on ABC's hit show "LOST." She plays Palin's then-teenage daughter Bristol and Justin Gaston, a former boyfriend of singer and actress Miley Cyrus, plays her then-boyfriend Levi Johnston, the father of her baby, Tripp.
"Game Change" is set to be directed by Jay Roach, who helmed "Meet the Parents" and the HBO film "Recount," which was about the 2000 election and the Florida recount.
