Dwayne Johnson talks 'Fast & Furious 6' and Gina Carano (Video)
Dwayne Johnson is excited to be back in the "Fast & Furious" franchise with "Fast & Furious 6" and the action actor talked to OTRC.com recently about the growing friendship between his and Vin Diesel's characters in the film, working alongside Gina Carano and his Hollywood career so far.
Johnson reprises his role as Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs and the actor said there's a lot of camaraderie between the characters in the film.
"There's some great camaraderie between all the characters and specifically between myself and Vin Diesel's character that's very -- it's still filled with a lot of tension but it's a growing, budding, brotherly type of camaraderie that audiences have really grown to love," he said. "You know and also too I gotta tell you from just -- from a business man point of view and perspective, to be involved in a movie where there are a multitude of stars where everything gets shared and so you feel a little less pressure where everything is divvied up."
Johnson also had nothing but praise for his co-star, former mixed martial artist Gina Carano. Carano plays Hobbs' partner Riley in the film and this is her third film role. She previously appeared in "Blood and Bone" and starred in the Steven Soderbergh movie "Haywire."
"I think Gina's foray into Hollywood has been non-traditional but it's been very successful and also she does amazing work in this movie and she was my partner in this movie," Johnson said. "She did a great job."
"Gina's a beautiful woman who is very driven to make it, and of course, her background in MMA and that type of wiring and makeup that she has that makes her into the awesome woman that she is, carries through her work so I think this is a great, big, breakout role Gina," he added. "She's beautiful, she's smart and she laughs at all my jokes."
Johnson, who was previously known as "The Rock" during his time as a WWE wrestler, has had roles in four movies slated for this year including "Fast & Furious 6," "Pain & Gain," "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "Empire State." He told OTRC.com that the four films were a result of years of hard work.
"I've been very fortunate. It's been a very busy year. You know, 2013 is the result of a couple of very busy past 24 to 36 months of shooting a lot of movies," he said. "You know what this has been like a big 'Rock' buffet of movies. Whatever you're hungry for in terms of movies, well you stop on by this 'Rock' buffet. I'm pretty sure I can please your appetite."
"I first broke into Hollywood about 12 years ago, I think, but even over a decade ago, I just wanted a diverse career and I didn't necessarily think, 'Oh I wanted to be involved in franchises and I want to be a big movie star.' I just wanted to have a diverse career that I knew was just going to take a lot of time," he added. "So I'm very fortunate."
Johnson continued, "Look I'm sitting here with you now. We're talking about this movie. We're talking about all these other movies that I've already had come out. Getting ready to go shoot another movie, 'Hercules' in Budapest, so things are good and I'm very, very grateful for where I'm at and I always gotta say this, I tip my hat to everybody around me who supports me and they work their butt off too so I and we all can live our dreams. "
