Dustin Milligan on how the girls got bikini-ready for 'Shark Night 3D'
Dustin Milligan spent most of "Shark Night 3D" in a bathing suit, but says he and his female co-stars weren't the on-set divas about their bodies.
"I'm not going to lie to you, it was not easy with all of that delicious Southern, deep-fried, buttery food that we had to avoid the entire time. What's funny about that is that the girls were far more relaxed about that than the guys were," Milligan told OnTheRedCarpet.com co-host Rachel Smith in an exclusive interview.
"The guys were so diva-esque while ordering," Milligan continued. "I mean except for me, I didn't care, but I don't want to name names but Chris Zilka and Sinqua Walls, for example, for two names you can use, they were very, very picky about what they ate but they also were in the best shape, so there you go. The girls though, they were having hamburger-eating competitions. It's crazy town. But good for them! Good for those girls! They still rocked the bikinis."
"Shark Night 3D" follows seven vacationers whose weekend at a lake house in the Louisiana Gulf turns into a nightmare when they are subjected to a series of shark attacks.
"As beautiful as it is, as soon as you dip your little toes into that water, you run the risk of being eaten alive by any number of sharks," Milligan joked. "That's a fact - true fact. I don't get out to the beach much at all and now that I've been in this movie and I understand the reality of how easy it is to get bit by a shark, I don't think I'm going to start surfing. I'm not gonna lie - I'm just going to keep surfing the internet."
While being attacked by sharks in a lake seems unlikely, Milligan insisted that it is possible for the creatures to survive in such a habitat.
"There are several documented cases of bull sharks and I think one other kind of shark that can survive in fresh water for up to a year after they've left the salt water, but our lake is a salt water lake - so even though we have many different types of shark - that can really happen in the salt water lake that we're set in. But even in a freshwater lake, you are not safe, so don't think for a second that you are safe."
Milligan joked, "Next up is 'Shark Tub 3D,' which is going to take place in the bath tub, where also there are documented cases of sharks being in the bath tub, So watch out for that!"
The 26-year-old actor also mused on what makes "Shark Night 3D" different from Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" franchise.
"I think the shark phenomenon and the universal fear of sharks certainly started with 'Jaws' and there's certain iconic imagery from that which our film certainly takes from and expands on while at the same time dramatizing it by building suspense and not necessarily seeing the sharks and building the tension," Milligan continued. "We're accommodating an audience that probably has a slightly less long of an attention span - we've made it less no less exciting - we build those scenes, we show you those sharks and we have sharks plural, meaning that there are a couple different types of sharks in the water, not just one like in 'Jaws.' It's similar in intention, but different in number of sharks attacking people."
The Canadian actor is best known for his role as Ethan Ward on "90210." Milligan has also appeared in films like "Final Destination 3," "Slither," "In the Land of Women" and "Extract."
