'Dirty Dancing' remake nabs Kenny Ortega as director - What do you think?
With a "Footloose" remake set for release on October 14, it was only a matter of time before "Dirty Dancing" got a reboot of its own.
Lionsgate will be remaking the 1987 film that starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze with Kenny Ortega in the director's chair. Ortega, who is best known for his work directing "High School Musical," choreographed the original film.
"The opportunity to direct 'Dirty Dancing' is like returning home for me," Ortega said in a statement. "Growing up in the 60's on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist. I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring 'Dirty Dancing' to the screen for a new generation."
The original film was a hit with audiences and grossed $214 million worldwide in 1987. It spawned a sequel in 2004 called "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights."
