It was a special Christmas for Dido.

Not only did the British singer, known for the hits "Thank You" and "Here With Me," celebrate her 40th birthday on Christmas Day - she got to spend the holidays with her first child.

Dido and her husband, Rohan Gavin, welcomed a baby boy, Stanley, in July, the UK newspaper The Daily Mail reported recently. Dido referenced her son in a Twitter message posted on December 24, saying: "I wanted to wish you all a very happy Christmas," she said. "I'm ridiculously excited about Stanley's first Christmas this year! :)"

Iin 2000, Dido and rapper Eminem put out a single called "Stan," which contains explicit lyrics and references to spousal abuse, murder and suicide. The hit song No. 1 in her native UK. Dido appears pregnant in its music video, which stars 1990s teen heartthrob Devon Sawa as her boyfriend "Stanley."

Dido and Gavin married in 2010. The singer announced on her website in February 2011 that she and Gavin were expecting a child and that she was "gutted" about not being able to travel to Los Angeles to perform her song "If I Rise" with A.R. Rahman at the Oscars ceremony that month. Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine sang the track in her place.

The song is the main theme of the James Franco film "127 Hours." The single was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song but lost to Randy Newman, who won the prize for his song "We Belong Together" from the "Toy Story 3" soundtrack.

Dido rose to fame in 1999 with "Here With Me," a ballad that later became the theme song to the U.S. sci-fi and drama series "Roswell." A year later, she released "Thank You," another love song played frequently on American radio stations.

Dido released her third studio album, "Safe Trip Home," in 2008. Her most recent solo single, "Everything To Lose," is featured on the soundtrack of the film "Sex and the City 2," which was released in 2010.
