Dick Van Dyke, 86, weds 40-year-old makeup artist
Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke has wed his 40-year-old makeup artist Arlene Silver, the actor's publicist confirmed to the Associated Press.
The pair wed on Leap Day in a small ceremony at a Malibu chapel near Van Dyke's home. Silver and Van Dyke were joined by family members and a few close friends.
Van Dyke's publicist Bob Palmer told the wire service that the pair has a lot in common, including a love of singing, and noted that he's never seen the actor happier.
"I got married on February 29, kind of on the spur of the moment," the 86-year-old actor told RumorFix in video interview (watch below). "We decided that Leap Day would be the best time to do it."
"Her name's Arlene Silver, she's now Arlene Silver Van Dyke," the actor continued. "We met at a SAG Awards about six years ago and she became my makeup artist and ultimately, worked her way up to wife... I'm not a loner. I have to have a life partner. I found the perfect one."
Silver, who also appears in the video, said of her new husband: "He's the happiest person I ever met. He's got an infectious spirit."
This marks the second marriage for the "Mary Poppins" star, who married his first wife Margie Willett in 1948. They had four children together, Chris, Barry, Carrie Beth and Stacy. They finalized their divorce in 1984 after a long separation.
He also lived with longtime companion Michelle Triola from 1976 until her death in 2009.
The four-time Emmy Award winner recently honored Mary Tyler Moore at the 48th Screen Actors Guild Awards. Moore and Van Dyke played a husband and wife on the 1960s series "The Dick Van Dyke Show." Van Dyke is also known for his roles in films such as "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "Night at the Museum."
