'Dexter's Cody back for season five, which John Lithgow says is in production
Preston Bailey, who plays the son of serial killer and Miami police blood-spatter expert Dexter Morgan's wife on Showtime's series Dexter, says he is coming back for the fifth season, which is set to premiere on September 26 and which recent guest star John Lithgow says is in production.
In the fourth season finale, Cody's mother and Morgan's wife Rita, played by Julie Benz, was last seen lying dead in a bathtub of blood. Bailey, 9, says Cody obviously experiences sadness in season five.
His on-screen mother's killing is the handiwork of Trinity, a serial killer played by Lithgow who doesn't follow Morgan's "code" of targeting only murderers. Morgan had killed him beforehand.
"If you're going to go off the show, that's the way to go," Lithgow recently told On The Red Carpet's Chris Balish, adding that he would not mind returning to Dexter in the form of a flashback, similar to how Morgan's father Harry is often portrayed.Michael C. Hall, who recently battled Hodgkin's lymphoma, and the rest of the cast began shooting the fifth season last month, Lithgow said.
"Doing Dexter is unbelievably hard work for him and he's going great, so that's good news," Lithgow said.
Julia Stiles from the 1999 Heath Ledger comedy movie Ten Things I Hate About You and Johnny Lee Miller of the series Eli Stone and the 1995 film Hackers, which starred now ex-wife Angelina Jolie, have recurring parts in season five of Dexter.
