'Dexter' spoilers: Katherine Moennig to guest-star in season 5
Katherine Moennig of The L Word will make a guest appearance in the upcoming fifth season of Dexter, Showtime's series starring Michael C. Hall as a police blood spatter expert and serial killer, a network spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
"She has a guest starring role in one episode and she plays a tattoo artist," the spokesperson said.
Hall, who recently battled Hodgkin's lymphoma, and the rest of the cast began shooting the fifth season last month, John Lithgow, who guest-starred in season 4, told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
Moennig played Shane McCutcheon on the Showtime series The L Word, which follows the lives of a group of lesbians in Los Angeles, between 2004 and 2009. She then starred in the short-lived CBS medical drama series Three Rivers as Dr. Miranda Foster.
In season four of Dexter, Lithgow played Trinity, a serial killer who doesn't live by Morgan's "code" of only targeting murderers and is believed to have killed his wife Rita, played by Julie Benz. Morgan killed Trinity but was too late to save her. Preston Bailey, who plays Rita's son, said he also appears in the new season, which is set to premiere on September 26.
Lithgow says he would not mind returning to Dexter in the form of a flashback, similar to how Morgan's father Harry is often portrayed. But Benz says she does not expect to return to the show and stars in the new ABC comedy series No Ordinary Family, which premieres on September 28.
Other actors who have signed on for recurring parts in season five of Dexter include Julia Stiles from the 1999 Heath Ledger comedy movie Ten Things I Hate About You and Johnny Lee Miller of the series Eli Stone and the 1995 film Hackers, which starred now ex-wife Angelina Jolie.
