'Deport Justin Bieber' petition meets 100K goal, response required

01/29/2014 by Corinne Heller

An online petition on the White House website that calls for teen pop star Justin Bieber to be deported to his native Canada following months of legal turmoil has been signed by more than 138,000 people, surpassing its goal of 100,000, and the U.S. administration must now issue a response.

The 19-year-old, who has enjoyed a large fan following for years, has not commented about the matter as of Wednesday afternoon. The petition was launched on Jan. 23, the day he was arrested in Miami on suspicion of DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license after allegedly racing friend R&B singer Khalil in a neighborhood. Bieber is set to be arraigned on Feb. 14 -- Valentine's Day.

According to the White House website, the U.S. administration must respond to all petitions that obtained 100,000 signatures within 30 days.

"We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked," the petition states. "He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation's youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society."

Mounting legal problems for Justin Bieber

In addition to his DUI case, Bieber is being investigated in connection with an assault case in his native Canada involving a limo driver. He turned himself in to Toronto police on Wednesday.

The singer is also being investigated for possible felony vandalism in California. His neighbor told police the singer threw eggs at his house and damaged his property. Bieber has not been charged with a crime in connection to the case. Earlier this week, paparazzi captured photos of moving trucks at his home. He has not commented.
