Demi Lovato releases video message after leaving medical center

03/07/2011 by Corinne Heller

Demi Lovato, star of the Disney Channel's "Sonny With a Chance," released a video message to her fans after undergoing treatment for "physical and emotional issues," calling the ordeal "probably the darkest time of my life."

Lovato, 18, left her tour with the Jonas Brothers in November 2010 and checked into a facility to deal with her problems. She underwent nearly three months of inpatient treatment and returned to her Los Angeles home in January.

"The journey that I've been on has been very, very difficult over the past few months," Lovato said in a video message posted on the website Cambio.com. "I was dealing with issues that I know not only girls just my age but of all ages are dealing with. I can't tell you how much light you guys brought into my life in probably the darkest time of my life, Without you guys, I wouldn't be here today."

Lovato's lawyers recently reached a settlement agreement with the singer and actress' backup dancer and former friend, Alex Welch. The two were reportedly involved in a violent confrontation before Lovato left the Jonas Brothers tour to begin rehab.

Reports of the tussle were leaked to the press weeks after Lovato checked herself into a medical center. The singer had up until then kept a low profile and deleted her Twitter page.

Lovato's Disney show, "Sonny With a Chance," was in danger of cancellation before producers decided to shoot a "show-within-a-show" called "So Random!" which proceeded without Lovato's title character.

"I'm excited to get back to work," Lovato said, without offering further details. "I can't wait to tell you guys what the future holds."

In January, Lovato took home the People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Guest Star for her guest appearance on the ABC medical drama series "Grey's Anatomy." Lovato played a troubled teenage patient.
