Demi Lovato regrets making relationship with ex Joe Jonas public, singer wishes her happy 18th birthday
Demi Lovato says she wishes she had kept quiet about her relationship to ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas of The Jonas Brothers, her co-stars in the Disney Channel film Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, as the singer and actress celebrated her 18th birthday on Friday.
"It's not very much fun when you break up in a public relationship," Lovato told People magazine. "So, maybe next time keep a secret.""You want to say to your fans, 'Guess what, I'm so in love with somebody,'" she said. "You want to shout it from the rooftops. That's what you do when you fall in love. At the same time, I learned my lesson. You know, I'll go public when I marry someone one day."
Lovato said in March she and Jonas were dating. The two met while filming the first Camp Rock film in 2007. Lovato announced in late May that they had broken up, saying they would remain friends. Early on Friday, Jonas said on his public Twitter page: "Happy birthday @ddlovato ! The big 1-8!"
Several weeks before Lovato announced the split, the two spoke favorably of their relationship during a press tour for ABC and Disney, OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company, to promote Lovato's Disney Channel Show Sonny With a Chance as well as Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, which is set for release on September 3.
Jonas, 20, had said he often visited Lovato on the set of her television series. The Jonas Brothers' summer tour began in late June and featured Lovato, who also performed with the group in 2008.
"It's no secret that the Jonas Brothers and I will always make music together, whether it's just writing together or performing on stage or recording - we have many duets together now," Lovato had told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the time.
To celebrate her birthday, Lovato bought a Mediterranean style home outside of Los Angeles for her herself and her family. She plans on living in a guest house on the property, telling People: "It's got pretty much everything you could possibly imagine in it. It's the most beautiful, homey-feeling house. I love it."
