Demi Lovato leaving 'The X Factor' after season 3 (Confirmed)
Demi Lovato has confirmed that she is leaving "The X Factor" after serving as a judge and mentor on the FOX singing competition series for the past two seasons.
The 21-year-old pop singer and actress revealed the news on Wednesday after taping the first part of the two-night season 3 finale and hours after reports said she would exit the series to concentrate on her music and upcoming tour.
"What I've done is I did some thinking and I feel like I started out as a musician and that's why I was on the show and so I have a lot ... of music this year so I can't really do it as the same time," Lovato told the TV show "Access Hollywood." "I'm going on tour -- the Neon Lights Tour -- so I'm really excited and it'll be a show that I've never put on before. It'll be pretty amazing."
The Associated Press quoted the singer as saying after Wednesday's performance show that she wanted to return to her "roots."
Show creator and co-judge Simon Cowell also commented about Lovato's departure.
"To avoid speculation. Because of her tour next year it was unlikely she could do that and 'X factor,'" he said on his Twitter page early on Thursday, Dec. 19. "She and I have had our ups and downs but now consider her a true friend. The door will always be open. And thank you Demi. Simon.x"
"As to what happens in the new year. Stay posted," he said, adding: "Next year on our shows the rules change. I had a light bulb moment two weeks ago."
Cowell has said the show will return for a fourth season in 2014, although the FOX network has not confirmed this. It is also unclear who would serve on the judges' panel. Currently, it is made up of Lovato, Cowell, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio.
