Deena Cortese of 'Jersey Shore' gets fined after being arrested for disorderly conduct
"Jersey Shore" cast member Deena Cortese walked away with a fine in court on July 3 after initially getting arrested for disorderly conduct in June.
The reality star pleaded guilty to failing to use the sidewalk and paid a $106 fine and $33 in court costs. She avoided a criminal conviction by pleading guilty to the violation, according to The Associated Press.
Cortese was arrested on June 10 on a charge of disorderly conduct after dancing on a roadway and interfering with the flow of traffic. She was slapping cars as they drove by.
The prosecution did not have enough evidence to prove that charge and agreed to allow her to plead guilty to the lesser offense of not using a sidewalk when one was provided.
"Deena was in the middle of the road," her lawyer, Michael Pappa, told The Associated Press. "Traffic was at a standstill because of summer congestion. She knew she made a mistake and she regrets what she did.
"Jersey Shore" recently began shooting its latest season in Seaside Heights. Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi had a similar arrest during filming of the series in 2010 for disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct and criminal annoyance of others. Later that year, she was sentenced to play a $500 fine and community service for the disturbing the peace charge after the other two charges were dropped.
Snooki is currently expecting her first child with fiance Jionni LaValle. She revealed in May that she would be having a baby boy and shared a photo of her growing baby bump. Snooki announced her pregnancy and engagement to boyfriend Jionni LaValle in March.
MTV announced on March 19 that it picked up "Jersey Shore" for a sixth season and that all the cast members will return. The new season is filming in the show's original location of Seaside Heights, New Jersey. It has filmed three previous seasons in that location.
