Debra Messing and husband Daniel Zelman split
Debra Messing and husband Daniel Zelman separated earlier in the year after being married for more than 10 years, OnTheRedCarpet.com has learned.
The two have one child - a 7-year-old son named Roman. Messing, 43, is known for her former role on the long-running comedy series "Will &Amp; Grace" and stars in the new NBC musical series "Smash," which began filming in New York City in the summer. This was her first marriage.
"Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman privately separated earlier this year after a 10-year marriage," the actress' spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com in a statement on Tuesday, December 20. "The decision was mutual, and they remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family."
Messing, Zelman and their son continue to live together in a home in New York despite the separation, Us Weekly quoted a source close to the family as saying.
The actress' spokesperson did not comment about the report or confirm whether or not divorce papers have been filed. The two are native New Yorkers. On October 28, Messing and Zelman attended Bette Midler's "Hulaween" benefit in New York. They were photographed together and wore similar ghoulish costumes (see photos).
Zelman, 44, is an actor, producer and writer who has worked on projects such as the show "Damages." He and Messing married in September 2000. The two met when they were students at New York University, according to People magazine. The actress earned an MFA from the college's Tisch School of the Arts in 1993.
"Smash" stars "American Idol" season 3 finalist Katharine McPhee as a young actress from Iowa who hopes to land the part of Marilyn Monroe in a new Broadway musical about the life of the Hollywood sex icon. Messing plays songwriter Julia Houston, who co-wrote the show's lyrics, while Anjelica Huston portrays a producer named Eileen Rand. "Smash" is set to premiere on Feb. 6, 2012.
News of Messing's separation comes a day after it was confirmed actress Jessica Lange and longtime life partner Sam Shepard broke up two years ago.
