David Arquette officially filed for divorce from estranged wife Courteney Cox days before the star couple's 13th anniversary and more than a year after they split, OnTheRedCarpet.com has learned.

The 40-year-old actor and Cox, who turns 48 on June 15, had in October 2010 announced that they had "agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time," adding that they remain "best friends." The two share a daughter, Coco, who turns 8 on Wednesday. Arquette is seeking joint legal and physical custody of her and is not asking for spousal or child support.

He filed the divorce papers at a Los Angeles court on Friday, June 8. He had signed the documents on March 23 and lists irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. He noted in the papers that he and Cox separated officially on Dec 31, 2011.

Arquette and Cox wed on June 12, 1999. They met Cox on the set of the 1996 horror film "Scream." They also co-starred in its sequels, including the 2011 film "Scream 4."

After they separated, Arquette and Cox promoted the film together (see photo, above) and vacationed with their daughter. They also discussed their relationship and love lives on Howard Stern's X-rated and uncensored Sirius XM satellite radio show.

The actor also guest starred on COX's sitcom "Cougar Town" during its recent third season. The show's fourth installment will air on the cable channel TBS.

"Thanks, Davy, for being on the show," Cox said on her Twitter page on May 29. "You were hysterical, as usual!! @davidarquette"

The couple is one of the most famous in Hollywood and their Episcopal wedding ceremony, which took place at a Francisco chapel, included celebrity guests such as Cox's "Friends" co-stars Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston, who attended when then-husband Brad Pitt. Arquette also incorporated a Jewish tradition in honor of his late mother, Mardi, by stepping on a wrapped wine goblet.

The actor, whose grandfather was a survivor of the Nazi Holocaust, is currently visiting Israel and has been exploring his Jewish heritage. On Monday, Arquette celebrated a bar mitzvah at a Jewish holy site in the Israeli capital of Jerusalem while filming a new Travel Channel series.
