David Arquette enters rehab following Courteney Cox separation

01/03/2011 by Corinne Heller

David Arquette has entered a rehab program following his split from actress-wife Courteney Cox and is reportedly seeking treatment for alcohol abuse and depression.

The 39-year-old actor and Cox, 46, married in June 1999 and have a 6-year-old daughter named Coco. They announced in October they had agreed to a trial separation. Arquette had said on The Howard Stern Show on SIRIUS XM satellite radio about two weeks ago that he had been drinking a lot and was heartbroken over the split.

"He is in there for drinking and depression, not hard drugs," a source close to Arquette told People magazine. Rehab was inevitable. He is dealing with a broken heart. He can't handle all the changes in his life. All his inner demons came out."

The actor's spokesperson had no immediate comment. Cox told the magazine: "I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life. I love and support him."

Arquette had told Stern he had been seeing a therapist and thinks he is having a midlife crisis. He added that he had been drinking a lot to mask his feelings, saying: "When I drink, I become a maniac. I'm definitely not drinking for a long time."

When asked about recently published photos of him dancing with other women, Arquette said: "I'm always having a good time" and added that one of them took one of the photos herself to try to set him up.

The actor had spoken about his love life on Stern's show soon after he and Cox announced their trial separation and said the two had not been intimate in months. He later apologized for revealing too much.

Arquette and Cox met on the set for the 1996 horror film "Scream" and reprise their roles in "Scream 4", which is due for release on April 15.
