Daryl Hannah arrested during oil pipeline protest again - see mug shot (Photo)

Daryl Hannah was recently arrested for protesting a planned $7 billion oil pipeline, more than 13 months after she was detained for the same reason.

The 51-year-old actress is a longtime environmental activist. TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline is set to transfer crude oil from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast. On Thursday, Hannah and landowner Eleanor Fairchild were arrested in northeast Texas after the two stood near heavy equipment to try to halt its construction on the 78-year-old woman's farm in Winnsboro, Hannah's manager told the Associated Press.

Both women were jailed and charged for criminal trespassing and released hours later after posting bail, according to police records obtained by OTRC.com. The charge is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of up to 180 days in county jail and a $2,000 fine.

Local TV station KLTV reported that Hannah was freed around midnight.

"I was peacefully protesting the unwanted advances of TransCanada on Eleanor Fairchild's land. She has stated very clearly that she doesn't want them there and they insist on bullying her and taking away her land through eminent domain," Hannah told the station. "We just sort of stood in front of them and held our hands up in a stop motion. I'm holding my wrist because there was this private security guard hired by TransCanada and he injured my wrist."

Fairchild said she objects specifically to the project's proposed usage of oil extracted from Tar Sands, which is a type of petroleum deposit made out of loose sand. She added: "I'm concerned about our water supply and I'm concerned about the pipe itself.

Fairchild also told KLTV that she did not throw herself in front of the excavator, as sheriff's office officials had told reporters, adding: "I had no intention of killing myself."

Hannah was arrested in late August 2011 near the White House while taking part in a protest against the pipeline project. The actress and other opponents of the plan are lobbying for clean energy investments and less dependence on fossil fuels. The U.S. State Department had said last year that the project posed few environmental risks.

Hannah has also been arrested for participating in other environmental protests. In 2009, she and other opponents of mountaintop removal mining were detained during a demonstration near a coal processing plant in West Virginia.

Hannah was also arrested in 2006 after she and about 40 others refused to leave a Los Angeles urban farm they had tried to protect from development. During the incident, Police removed her from a walnut tree, where she and other protesters had stayed on and off for 23 days.

Hannah is known for films such as the "Kill Bill" series, the 1982 sci-fi movie "Blade Runner" and the 1984 comedy "Splash," in which she played a mermaid who falls in love with a New Yorker, played by Tom Hanks.

Hannah recently filmed the comedy movie "The Hot Flashes" with Brooke Shields, Wanda Sykes and Virigina Madsen. The movie is about a group of women who are former high school basketball champions in Texas. They challenge their younger counterparts to a tournament to raise money for breast cancer. Sykes is a breast cancer survivor herself.
