Daniel Radcliffe to star in 'The Woman in Black'; 'Harry Potter' actor also returning to Broadway
Daniel Radcliffe is set to star in the film The Woman in Black, based on the book by Susan Hill, his spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com, and the Harry Potter actor is also planning a return to Broadway next year, this time in a musical.
In the movie, set for release next year, Radcliffe will play Arthur Kipps, a lawyer who travels to a village to settle the estate of a deceased client and discovered the place is haunted by the ghost of a scorned woman out for revenge.
Production is expected to begin in the fall and the project will be directed by James Watkins.
"I am incredibly excited to be part of The Woman In Black," Radcliffe said in a statement. "Jane Goldman's script is beautifully written - both tender and terrifying in equal measure. It is thrilling to be working with James Watkins. From his brilliant work on Eden Lake and also having met him and heard his vision for the film, I know he will make a fantastic film."
Radcliffe, who famously stripped down to star in the play Equus in London and Broadway in the past few years, will make his return to the stage next year and star as J. Pierrepont Finch in a revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, a musical based on a satirical self-help book. Previews begin on February 26.Radcliffe, who turns 21 on Friday, can be seen next in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which sees the final showdown between teen wizard Harry Potter and the evil wizard Voldemort. Part 1 is set for release on November 19 (watch the trailer). The second part will hit theaters on on July 15, 2011.
Radcliffe said many of cast members were "devastated" and cried after shooting the final scenes.
