Daniel Craig to star in 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' (Universal Pictures) Daniel Craig, who played James Bond in recent films, is set to portray Swedish journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The film, set for release on Dec. 21, 2011, is based on the first book in a trilogy of crime novels written by Stieg Larsson. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will begin production toward the end of the year, a spokesperson said.

In the novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Blomkvist accepts a final freelance assignment by an elderly businessman who wants to find out what happened to his grand-niece. It is still unclear which leading actress will portray Lisbeth Salander, a superhacker and private investigator.

Craig lent his voice and likeness to the video game James Bond 007: Blood Stone, which also features singer Joss Stone.

The game, which will be formatted for Xbox 360, PS3, PC and DS and is set to hit stores this holiday season.
