Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper on "The Wonder Years," breaks out the big guns and fights wild beasts in the new SyFy film "Tasmanian Devils."

The TV movie airs on the cable channel on January 19 at 9 p.m. ET. The 38-year-old actress stars alongside Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno. "Tasmanian Devils" is about base jumpers in a remote national park in Australia. They are pursued by grizzly bear-sized Tasmanian Devils. In real life, such animals are usually the size of small dogs.

Trailer, which was released this week, features scenes of blood and gore. McKellar is seen firing a big hand gun and operating a flame thrower as she battles the monstrous creatures. Ohno's fate doesn't appear to be promising.

This is his second on-screen scripted role. He made his acting debut on a February 2012 episode of CBS' "Hawaii Five-O." Last year, Ohno competed on "Dancing With The Stars" for the second time, during the ABC show's "All-Stars" season.

The SyFy channel is also known for TV films such as "Sharktopus," "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus" and the 2011 movie "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid," which starred 1980s pop stars Tiffany and Debbie Gibson.

McKellar rose to fame as a child actress, playing the love interest of main character Kevin Arnold, on the drama series "The Wonder Years," which premiered in the late 1980s. McKellar continued to act but also obtained a math degree from UCLA.

She has penned several math books, including "Math Doesn't Suck: How to Survive Middle School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail" and "Hot X: Algebra Exposed."

She has in recent years done mostly voiceover work for animated children's shows and TV movies, such as "Inspector Mom." McKellar has also guest starred on sitcoms such as "How I Met Your Mother" and "The Big Bang Theory." She told OTRC.com in December 2011 that she would love to return to the geek-themed CBS comedy series, whose subject matter is "near and dear" to her heart.
