'Dancing With The Stars' season 17 finale: Dance By Dance Recap

11/26/2013 by Cari Skillman

The final three couples on "Dancing with the Stars" have tango-ed their way through 11 grueling weeks of performing and they all had one more dance to get through before finding out who would be taking home that mirror ball trophy (Find out who WON season 17 here).

They all had less than 24 hours to put together an assigned "fusion" dance and it would be for judge's scores ONLY. Here's a recap from highest total scores to lowest:

Amber Riley and Derek Hough -- Samba and Quickstep fusion dance 30 out of 30 / "Judges' Pick" Charleston - 30 out of 30 / Samba relay - 4 out of 5 / Freestyle - 30 out of 30 = 94 out 95 total points for both nights.

Amber was assigned a fusion of Samba and Quickstep for this last push around the ballroom. She admitted she is beyond tired but Derek cheered her on and she made it through one last rehearsal. Amber was quite teary when she left that work room for the last time!

The judges were thrilled, with Carrie Ann Inaba saying it looked like they'd invented a brand new dance style. Len Goodman told Amber she was bedazzling and always lights up the ballroom; and Bruno Tonioli call the dance high octane.

Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff -- Cha Cha Cha and Foxtrot fusion dance 27 out of 30 / "Judges' Pick" Quickstep - 27 out of 30 / Samba relay - 5 out of 5 / Freestyle - 30 out of 30 = 89 out of 95 total points.

Foxtrot and Cha Cha Cha are the two dances that will become one for this duo. They enter the rehearsal room for the last time and offer a glimpse of sentimentality about this being "the end," but Corbin quickly turns back to the matter at hand.

The start choreographing and he tells Karina they're going to keep it "clean" -- no "messing about" for Len to complain about. Len congratulated them on the Foxtrot portion, but Corbin lost his place at the end of the Cha Cha Cha (he says he got lost in the moment!)

Carrie Ann was impressed (until the misstep) and Bruno also loved the Foxtrot, and though the Cha Cha Cha fell short.

Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke -- Paso Doble and Salsa fusion dance 27 out of 30 / "Judges' Pick" Jive - 24 out of 30 / Samba relay - 3 out of 5 / Freestyle - 30 out of 30 = 84 out of 95 total points.

It's adorable to see Cheryl voting for Jack (and herself) on her phone as they walk to rehearsal. Their double dance must include the Paso Doble and the Salsa. Jack is questioning if making it to the final is a reward or a punishment! Cheryl makes him feel better by telling him again that he's her favorite partner of all time. (I wonder what Emmitt Smith and Drew Lachey think of that?)

Bruno called their fusion "wonderful;" Carrie Ann thought he was a little flatfooted; and Len told Jack he's given him nothing but pleasure throughout the season and added that while others climbed hills, Jack has climbed mountains.

The season 17 finale also saw the return of eliminated contestants Keyshawn Johnson, Bill Nye, Valerie Harper, Christina Milian, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Brant Daugherty, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Leah Remini and Bill Engvall.

The night featured performances by Lady Antebellum, who sang their new single "Compass," and Enrique Iglesias, who performed his single "Heart Attack."

Singer Colbie Caillat also stopped by the ballroom to perform "What a Wonderful World," which Harper and her partner Tristan MacManus danced to. Ylvis performed their viral hit "The Fox" and they were accompanied by celebrity contestants Bleu, Riley, Osbourne and Daugherty and their pro partners for a super-sized version of their team routine to the song from week 7.
