The TNT cable network announced on Friday, July 8, that it plans to air a full series based on "Dallas," which will see Larry Hagman, 79, reprising his role as oil tycoon J.R. Ewing.

The new show is set to debut in the summer of 2012 and TNT has ordered 10 episodes, according to a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com.

The network plans to air sneak peek clips from the new "Dallas" on Monday, July 11, during the season premieres of its programs "The Closer," which begins at 9 p.m. ET, and "Rizzoli & Isles," which stars at 10 p.m. ET.

TNT had announced its plans for a pilot episode earlier this year and confirmed Hagman's participation.

Also set to return - Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray, who will reprise their roles of Ewing's younger brother Bobby and the oil tycoon's ex-wife Sue Ellen.

"TNT has explored the possibility of an updated version of 'Dallas' for several years, but it wasn't until we read Cynthia Cidre's outstanding pilot script that we knew we had the foundation for a great new series," Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), said in the TNT network's statement.

The original "Dallas" series ran from 1978 to 1991 and was famous for cliffhangers, namely the "Who Shot J.R.?" storyline.

The new show will follow J.R. and Sue Ellen Ewing's son John Ross, played by Josh Henderson, and the adopted son of Bobby, Christopher, who is portrayed by Jesse Metcalfe. The two clash over the future of the family dynasty.

Henderson played Austin on "Desperate Housewives." Metcalfe portrayed John on the ABC drama series and also played Miguel on the soap opera "Passions."

Also joining the new "Dallas" - "The Fast & the Furious" actress Jordana Brewster will play Elena, a woman in the middle of a love triangle with John and Christopher.

Brenda Strong, who voices Mary Alice Young on "Desperate Housewives," is set to play Ann Ewing, Bobby's wife, on the new "Dallas."

Julie Gonzalo plays Christopher's fiance, Rebecca Sutter. She portrayed Maggie on the show "Eli Stone" and Parker on "Veronica Mars."
