Cuba Gooding Jr. gives excited speech, does an Oscar jig - Oscar History (Video)
Throughout this Oscar season, we are looking back at some of the great moments in Academy Awards history. At the 69th Academy Awards in 1997, Cuba Gooding Jr. won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the 1996 romantic comedy-drama, "Jerry Maguire."
The film stars Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire, a sports agent who is fired for expressing his unfavorable opinion, and Gooding Jr. who portrays an arrogant and overconfident football player. Cruise continues his career as an independent, with Gooding's character, Rod Tidwell, being one of the few that stays by his side.
During his eager speech, Gooding Jr. made sure to follow some advice he received from Cruise.
"I know I have a little bit of time so I'm going to rush and say everybody and you can cut away I won't be mad at you," Gooding Jr. said during his memorable Oscar speech. "Tom [Cruise] said, 'Don't forget to thank your wife,' and I will never forget to thank my wife, my high-school sweetheart and the mother of my children Spencer and Mason, I love you Sarah."
Gooding Jr. went on to thank his parents, God and others who worked on the film with him. The enthusiastic actor proceeded to use large and expressive hand gestures, and did a celebratory jumping kick (Watch above). The actor even received a standing ovation from many members of the audience, including actor Steve Martin.
Gooding Jr. is also known for his work in films such as "Pearl Harbor," "What Dreams May Come," "Rat Race," "As Good as It Gets" and "Men of Honor."
In January 2012, Gooding Jr. took part in the historic film "Red Tails." Also starring in the film are actors Terrance Howard, Bryan Cranston and singer Neyo.
