Cory Monteith 'Glee' tribute episode sees ratings boost
The "Glee" episode that paid tribute to late actor Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, saw a ratings boost from the week before and placed second behind ABC's "Grey's Anatomy."
On "Glee," current and former cast members sang songs in memory of Finn, whose death was mentioned but not explained. Monteith died died in July from a heroin and alcohol overdose.
The episode, titled "The Quarterback," earned a 2.8 rating among adults between ages 18 and 49 and was watched by about 7.4 million people overall on Thursday. It placed second in its time slot after "Grey's Anatomy," which earned the same rating in the target demographic but drew 8.7 viewers.
Last week's episode of "Glee" earned a 1.6 rating and was watched by 4.4 million people.
Thursday's "Glee" episode promoted the Twitter hashtag #RememberingCory, which trended on the social network.
"Thank u for all the kind words tonight. I miss you, Cory," tweeted "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy.
