Colin Farrell on 'Total Recall' injuries: Nothing on the face, darling
Colin Farrell was put through the ringer on the set of his new film, "Total Recall," but the actor said he was careful in protecting his money-maker.
"I was gash-free for the whole shoot. I got a few bruises and welts, but nothing on the face, darling," Farrell joked during a recent interview with OnTheRedCarpet.com.
"Total Recall" stars Colin Farrell as a factory worker who finds out he is actually a spy after visiting Rekall - a company which allows clients to experience their dream lives. Biel plays a prostitute/freedom fighter named Melina who teams up with Doug Quaid, played by Farrell, to change the political system in a country set in a fascist future, headed by president Cohaagen, played by Bryan Cranston.
The original science fiction movie was released in 1990 and starred Schwarzenegger as Quaid. Sharon Stone played Lori, Quaid's wife, in the original film and Beckinsale will play her role in the new version. The film, which is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, is set to be released on August 3 and also stars John Cho and Ethan Hawke.
Farrell admit that the experience of filming the movie was very different from watching the fast-paced finished product.
"There's so much air and dead space and it took us six months to do what inched you towards the edge of your seat last night - it took us six months to do, but having said that, there are a couple of scenes within the segment that they were that were pretty intense. A couple of fight scenes and things. Mostly jumping stuff. Jumping with wires, so you know you're safe, but there were a couple of really long jumps that were nerve-wracking, but in a fun, fun way."
The set of the science fiction film surprisingly wasn't completely computer generated. The 36-year-old actor was impressed to be interacting with very few green screens on the "Total Recall" set.
"There was loads [of green screens] in the world behind, trying to fall and all that stuff, but the immediate environment as I said - it's not like I had to have a conversation with a tennis ball as Jar Jar Binks or anything, anyone I was working with was flesh and blood and tables and chairs were all there. They built one of the most spectacular sets, I mean that colony set, where I meet the three-breasted lady of the night, that was one of the most sumptuous sets I've ever seen and I've been on a few in my day."
Farrell is known for his roles in films like "Phone Booth," "Alexander," "Crazy Heart" and "Horrible Bosses." The Irish actor won a 2009 Golden Globe Award for his role in the comedy film "In Bruges."
"Doing dramatic films, you kind of feel the burden of jadedness and age and shifting perceptions as you get older, but action stuff is fun," Farrell said. "I hadn't done it in a while."
Of his all-time favorite roles, Farrell told OnTheRedCarpet.com, "I loved 'Alexander,' as much as the theatrical release wasn't what it could have been, the experience of it was amazing. I probably have to say 'Ondine,' a small Irish film that I did [is my favorite]. My second son was born from that experience of that story, so probably that. And it's a sweet film - I think nobody saw the [expletive] movie, but whatever."
Farrell and his co-star in "Ondine," Alicja Bachelda-Curus, welcomed son Henry Tadeusz Farrell on October 7, 2009. The pair broke up a year later. Farrell is also father to James Padraig Farrell, who was born to model Kim Bordenave in 2003.
