Clarice Taylor of 'The Cosby Show,' dies at age 93

Actress Clarice Taylor, who played Grandma Anna Huxtable on 'The Cosby Show,' has died at age 93 of heart failure on May 30, her rep told People magazine.

Taylor was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1986 for her role as Dr. Heathcliff "Cliff" Huxtable's (Bill Cosby) mother on the long-running show.

Taylor was born in Buckingham County, Virginia but was raised in New York City. She was one of the founding members of the Negro Ensemble Company, which helped pave the way for African-American actors. She began working as an actress full-time in the 1960s.

Taylor's career in theater, radio, TV and film spanned over five decades. She was also known for her roles as David's grandmother Harriet on "Sesame Street" and as Grady's Cousin Emma on "Sanford and Son."

She also starred opposite Liza Minelli as Minnie in "Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon" and played Birdie in Clint Eastwood's 1971 film, "Play Misty For Me."

Taylor is survived by her two sons, William and James and five grandchildren.
