Christina Hendricks to play Wonder Woman? 'Mad Men' star is interested
Christina Hendricks wants to play "Wonder Woman" on screen but the red-headed "Mad Men" actress says that she had just recently learned of online reports that say she may star in an upcoming project involving the sexy comic book superhero.
On the AMC 1960s-era drama "Mad Men," Hendricks, a 35-year-old Tennessee native, plays Joan Harris, an office manager in a struggling New York City ad firm who commands attention with her voluptuous looks and assertive attitude.
"I just heard that rumor too," Hendricks said on The Rachael Ray Show earlier this week. "I don't know where it got started but I love it. I've been wanting to wear that outfit my whole life. I had 'Wonder Woman' underoos! I'd love to. That would be so fun. We're putting it out there."
A "Wonder Woman" film is also being developed by Warner Bros. Pictures and is as of now set for release in 2013, according to preliminary casting lists. A new "Wonder Woman" series is reportedly being developed by "Ally McBeal" producer David E. Kelly.
When asked by the UK newspaper The Times about reports that said she may star in a "Wonder Woman" project, former "Transformers" actress Megan Fox called the character a "lame superhero."
Hendricks is seen by many as a sex symbol and has been both celebrated and criticized for her figure. She has been praised by a UK minister as a positive role model for women and starred in a sexy fall 2010 ad campaign for clothing manufacturer London Fog, which said the actress was chosen for her "glamorous and sophisticated persona."
But the New York Times once quoted a stylist who referred to Hendricks as a "big girl" and bashed the television star for her peach-colored Christian Siriano gown she wore at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards. Hendricks said her feelings were hurt.
