Christina Applegate's return to television in "Up All Night" had a strong start on Wednesday.

The show, which premiered after the season finale of "America's Got Talent," nabbed 10.9 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Next week the show debuts in its regular times slot of Wednesday at 8 p.m.

In the new single-camera show, Applegate, 39, portrays an acerbic working mother, while former "Arrested Development" star Will Arnett plays her overwhelmed, but supportive stay-at-home husband.

The project was spearheaded by "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels and writer Emily Spivey. Applegate is also one of the producers, her spokesperson had told OnTheRedCarpet.com.

In real life, Christina gave birth to her first daughter, Sadie, with musician Martyn LeNoble in January, Arnett and his wife, Amy Poehler welcomed their second child in August 2010, and Rudolph welcomed her third child in July.

The actress is known for playing the main character on "Samantha Who?," a comedy series that ran between 2007 and 2009, and for her role as ditzy Kelly Bundy on the sitcom "Married With Children," which starred "Modern Family" actor Ed O'Neill as her misanthropic father Al and "Sons of Anarchy" star Katey Sagal as her mother Peg.

Applegate has in recent years appeared in movies such as "Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore," "Going the Distance" and the 2011 comedy "Hall Pass."

Arnett has had a recurring role on the sitcom "30 Rock" for the past three years and played "George "Gob" Bluth II" on the cult comedy series "Arrested Development" between 2003 and 2006. He also starred on the short-lived show "Running Wilde" last year.

The premiere ratings for "Up All Night" were better than some veteran television series like "Big Brother," which nabbed 7.7 million viewers for its finale and the latest premiere of "Survivor," which got 10.6 million viewers.

New shows that premiered on Wednesday included the CW's "H8R," which received 1.3 million viewers and "America's Next top Model," which got 1.9 million viewers.
