Christina Aguilera detained in L.A. for drunkenness
Christina Aguilera was detained on Tuesday after her boyfriend Matthew Rutler was arrested and charged on Tuesday for driving under the influence of alcohol in Los Angeles.
Police stopped Rutler, 25, at 2:45 a.m. local time for erratic driving. Aguilera, a passenger in his car, was detained for public intoxication and released at about 7:30 a.m.
"Since she was not able to care for her safety and no one was immediately available to ensure her safety, Aguilera was taken into custody," a police spokesperson said in statement. "Ms. Aguilera was cooperative and was not involved in any criminal activity."
"Because she was taken into custody solely for her safety and the safety of the public, no charges will be filed," the spokesperson added. "She didn't really understand where she was in many regards. She said she didn't drive, so she didn't even know where she lived."
Rutler works as a production assistant in Los Angeles. He and Aguilera have been spotted together in recent months following her split from Jordan Bratman.
Aguilera, 30, filed for divorce from Bratman, 33 in the fall of 2010 after five years of marriage. Their divorce will be made official on April 15. The Grammy-winning pop singer, and Bratman, a music marketer, have a 3-year-old son, Max.
During the past few months, Aguilera made her debut acting performance in the movie "Burlesque" with Cher and recently made headlines when she fumbled a line of "The Star Spangled Banner," the U.S. national anthem, at the 2011 Super Bowl.
