Chris Brown and Drake fight investigation leads nightclub to get shut down for code violations
The New York City night club where Chris Brown and rapper Drake reportedly got into an altercation has been shut down by police.
A spokeswoman for the New York City Police Department told the Associated Press that W.i.P (Work in Progress) in SoHo was closed on June 16 because of code violations. No further details were released.
Eight people were injured the night of the fight including Brown, who Tweeted a photo of a gash on his chin before deleting it, his girlfriend, bodyguard and San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker. Parker said he suffered a scratched retina during the fight.
Drake and Brown left the scene before police arrived at 4 a.m. on June 14. It is unclear what started the fight, though both musicians have both dated Rihanna in the past.
Drake's rep denied that his client was present when the fight broke out and told OnTheRedCarpet.com, "Drake did not participate in any wrongdoing of any kind last night at W.i.P. He was on his way out of the club when the altercation began. He did not engage in any activity which resulted in injury to person or damage to property."
Brown's rep told OnTheRedCarpet.com on June 14, "Chris, Karrueche and his friends were victims of a brutal attack last night at WIP. They sustained several injuries. Chris and his party are cooperating with NY authorities who are pursuing this incident further."
Brown assaulted Rihanna, who was his girlfriend at the time, after a pre-Grammy Awards party in 2009. He pleaded guilty to a felony charge was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service and was ordered by the courts to receive domestic violence courses for a year.
Shortly after Rihanna's breakup with Brown, the singer dated Drake. Drake also appeared in her music video for "What's My Name," while she collaborated with him on his hit, "Take Care." Drake, who played Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian teen drama series "Degrassi: The Next Generation" and Rihanna have not confirmed a relationship.
Brown remains on probation for the felony assault, if he gets arrested in connection with the fight, it could constitute a violation of the terms of his probation. In order to determine whether it is a violation, the LA prosecutors would have to request a probation violation hearing. Even if Brown doesn't get charged but is arrested, it could characterize a violation of probation and land the singer in jail.
